BRUSSELS, March 11, 2022 – In the aftermath of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has emphasized the need for member states to increase their defense spending in order to strengthen the alliance’s deterrence and defense capabilities.

Speaking to reporters at a press conference, Stoltenberg stressed the importance of meeting the NATO target of spending 2% of GDP on defense, a commitment that only a handful of members currently meet. He also called on allies to invest in modern military capabilities, such as air defense systems, cyber defense, and special forces.
