Chinese President Xi Jinping on Wednesday stressed the importance of strengthening the Communist Party of China’s (CPC) ties with the younger generation and guiding them to shoulder the responsibilities of the times. Xi, also general secretary of the CPC Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, made the remarks while joining a deliberation with deputies from Jiangsu Province to the 20th National Congress of the CPC at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. Noting that young people are the future of the Party and the country, Xi said the CPC must firmly establish the concept that young people are the foundation for the development of the Party and the country and the future of the cause of socialism with Chinese characteristics. He urged the Party to care for and love young people, respect their aspirations, guide them to establish correct world outlook, outlook on life and values, and cultivate their sense of responsibility, historical mission and commitment to the Party. Xi called on the Party to strengthen its ability to organize, mobilize and serve young people so as to fully tap their potential and creativity. He urged efforts to create a sound environment for the growth and development of young people, cultivate and select outstanding young cadres and talents, and create more opportunities for young people to make contributions and achieve success. The CPC Central Committee has attached great importance to the work related to young people, Xi said, adding that the Party has made a series of important decisions and arrangements to strengthen and improve the Party’s work concerning young people. He stressed the need to implement these decisions and arrangements in a comprehensive and effective manner, and to make unremitting efforts to build a strong foundation for the Party’s long-term governance. Xi also joined deliberations with deputies from Shanxi Province and Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region to the 20th CPC National Congress on Wednesday. During his discussions with deputies from Shanxi, Xi urged efforts to promote high-quality development of the province’s energy industry, ensure the stable supply of energy and optimize the energy structure. He also called for promoting the coordinated development of the province’s urban and rural areas and the integrated development of its southern, central and northern regions. Xi stressed the need to strengthen the Party’s leadership over all aspects of work in Shanxi and improve its ability to govern. While joining deliberations with deputies from Ningxia, Xi urged efforts to promote high-quality economic development in the region, and to consolidate and expand the achievements in poverty alleviation. He also called for enhancing ethnic unity and promoting harmonious coexistence among different ethnic groups in Ningxia.
